On 12 December, the working group held a kick-off meeting to discuss the desired activities, possible forms of self-organisation and concrete next steps.

In the course of the discussion, the desire for greater mutual coordination and collaborative research became clear as well as the desire to make research on universities and science more visible to the outside world.

With regard to the stronger coordination, the proposal of a newsletter was discussed. Furthermore, it was discussed how the mailing list could be used effectively. It was also pointed out that the OSPS will organise a follow-up event in September 2020 to the meeting in Bern in September 2019.

With a view to enhancing the visibility of research on universities and science, the idea of an edited volume or a position paper was discussed. While the idea of an edited volume was seen more as a long-term goal, the idea of a position paper has already been discussed in more concrete terms. It was decided to hold a separate meeting for this purpose, which could possibly be linked to a CHESS lecture.
